💫 Get That Fit!

Your guide to snug, comfy, leak-free cloth diapering

Let’s be honest—cloth diapers are magical, but getting the perfect fit can take a little practice. Whether you're brand new to cloth or just need a refresher, we’ve got you covered (literally). Here's how to get that fit just right—from waist to wiggles.

✅ The Basics: What a Good Fit Looks Like

  • No gaps at the legs or back
Think "seal the deal"—snug like undies, but not tight like shapewear.

  • Absorbency fully tucked in
No inserts, flats, or prefolds peeking out. If fabric sticks out, it can wick moisture onto clothes.

  • Smooth across the tummy
No folding, bunching, or digging into the belly. It should sit flat and comfy under the belly button.

  • Freedom to wiggle!
Your baby should be able to kick, crawl, and roll without red marks or pinching.

🧷 Snap Tips & Tricks

  • Start at the rise
If your diaper has rise snaps (the rows across the front), adjust those first to size down for smaller babies. Snap upward to shorten the diaper length.

  • Wing it just right
The waist snaps should land evenly on both sides. If one wing is pulled tighter than the other, the fit may be off.

  • Hip snaps matter
If your diaper has hip snaps, use them to anchor the wings and prevent droopage or wing lift (especially with older babies or toddlers).

✨ Fit by Age/Stage

👶 Newborns

  • Use the smallest rise setting

  • Tuck fabric under the cord (or use newborn-friendly styles with a dip)

  • Make sure elastics hug the thigh crease (not the leg)

👶🏽 Infants

  • Expect chunky thighs and slim waists—adjust waist and rise separately as baby grows

  • Check fit with each growth spurt!

🧒 Toddlers

  • Let out rise snaps as baby lengthens

  • Don’t be afraid to overlap wings for a secure waist

  • Use hip snap covers (like our Snap Caps™) if hip snaps start to rub with wider waists

🚨 Troubleshooting

Leaking at the legs?
Check for gaps—elastics should sit in the underwear line, not halfway down the thigh.

Leaks up the back?
Waist may be too loose or insert may be saturated. Try a tighter fit or boosting absorbency.

Red marks?
Indentations = normal. Deep marks or irritation = too tight. Loosen one snap or check insert bulk.

Wings creeping up?
Use your hip snaps! Or try our Snap Caps™ to hold them down gently and extend diaper wear.

🧡 Final Fit Check

Before you call it done, do a two-finger check—slide two fingers under the waist and legs. It should feel secure but still easy to move.

If baby can do a full wiggle dance without leaks or red marks—🎉 you got that fit! 🎉
